Who knew traveling from one place to the next could be so fun? This weekend, we decided to take a quick trip to Monteverde, one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful places. Instead of taking the shuttle, we took the faster (and way more fun!) taxi-boat-taxi.
From Arenal, it’s a quick 30 minute drive to the lake (the shuttle will pick you up from the front door of your hotel/hostel). Once there, the group boards a boat, and begins the journey across the lake. If you’re lucky, like we were, and the weather is nice, you can enjoy stunning views of the lake and fresh air for the entire ride.
Once you arrive on the opposite end of the lake, you board another small shuttle and begin the trip to Monteverde. Even though the distance to Monteverde is relatively short, the winding and unpaved mountain roads make for a slower drive. However, with breathtaking views of lush rolling hills, quant cabins, and green rainforest, you won’t mind the slow pace.
Surprisingly, some of my favorite moments in Costa Rica have been in a car, shuttle, or bus, enjoying the beautiful landscape right outside the window. Traveling among cities in Costa Rica doesn’t have to be a chore, and if you get creative (like taxi-boat-taxi has), it’s basically an excursion in and of itself!
